I don't have anything to wear!

I am asked all the time in desperation, “ WHAT DO I WEAR FOR MY PHOTO SESSION?!!!!” Here are some ideas i tell folks.

What to wear

• #1 Rule - BE COMFORTABLE! Wear what you enjoy. It will show in your pictures!
• Clothes that match in style – formal, business casual, casual
• Wear the same type/color of shoes (leather, sneakers, dress shoes) – or not (bare feet are cool too)
• Clothes that match the season
• If you want to “match” then everyone match everything - make it uniform

___________Black/white/blue shirts - white tee shirts under open collared shirts
___________Khaki, black, blue pants - blue jeans
___________however, you don’t have to wear uniform for a nice portrait

• Colors that coordinate – Darker colors help faces stand out
• Layers are good
• Long sleeves
• Appropriate clothes to match the location – inside / outside

___________Jewelry - simple and basic – nothing big and shiny that will distract from you
What not to wear:

• Patterns, logos, plaid, stripes and bold patterns – anything that is busy. Did I say patterns?
• Watches
• Avoid clothes and colors that will make one person “stick out”
• Short sleeves and shorts

How to choose

• Pick one person’s outfit – have everyone else coordinate

Do

• Wash hands and face before traveling to the location
• Cut finger and toenails
• Have face and hair fixed before the session
• This include guys – a little makeup can work wonders on scars, cuts, zits and other blemishes – I won’t tell anyone!

Don’t

• Get a completely new hair style the day before the session! – it is best to look like YOU

Bring

• Personal Care

___________Brush, comb, non-color lip balm (for everyone)
___________Other personal care products needed
___________Small amount of makeup

• Props – if something defines you – bring it!
